The course includes classes in Ministry to Firefighters, Ministry to People in Crisis, Helping Firefighters Manage Stress, Fire Department Funerals, Fire Chaplain Operations, and others. This course serves as the foundation for credit with the Federation of Fire Chaplains.

    This course is HIGHLY recommended by and for fire/rescue chaplains throughout the world. For members of the FFC, this course is the one that provides the foundation for our FFC Advanced Training Certificates.

    The Basic Fire Chaplain Training includes 2-days of course material designed to introduce the fire chaplain to ministry in the fire service. Topics included are roles of fire chaplains, how to minister to firefighters, how to minister to fire victims, critical incident stress, fire department funerals, basic fire chaplain operations, etc. Successful completion of this class will partially fulfill the training requirements necessary to become a certified chaplain by the Kentucky Fire Commission. This course also serves as a great annual refresher for all fire chaplains.


    ADVANCED-LEVEL CHAPLAIN CLASS: FUNERAL PREPARATION AND ORGANIZATION: PASTORAL CARE TO THE GRIEVING

    Advanced chaplain classes are classes expanding the knowledge base of the basic course. This course is designed to equip chaplains with the tools to assist with death notifications, plan a funeral for non-LODD and LODD, how to interact with a grieving family, and how to prepare, craft, and deliver a funeral message. This class does NOT fulfill any requirements for state fire chaplain certification.

    Instructors

    Gary White is currently serving as the Region Two Chaplain for the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association and as the Chaplain for the New Market District Volunteer Fire Rescue Department. He received his BS from Liberty University in Religion, an Advance Diploma in Biblical Counseling from Light University and holds his Advanced Fire Chaplain Certificate with the Federation of Fire Chaplains. He is currently a Board Certified Biblical Counselor with the International Board of Christian Counselors and a Board Certified Response Chaplain by the Board of Christian Crisis and Trauma Response.

    Charles “Chuck” Ward has been in Fire/EMS for 30 plus years and has been a Nationally Registered Paramedic for 25 years. He has been serving as Chaplain for the Powellville VFC since 2015. He also serves as Chaplain for the Wicomico County Vol. Firefighters Association. In addition to he is a Chaplain with the Maryland State Firefighters Association and is the Deputy Chaplain for Region 8 for the Maryland Fire Chiefs Association. He holds his Advanced Fire Chaplain Certificate with the Federation of Fire Chaplains. He is also a Licensed Minister, has a Bachelor of Ministry Degree, and is currently working on his Master of Ministry Degree.

    This one-day workshop is designed for those interested in becoming FFC Instructors and is also required every five years for current instructors.

    • Received the FFC Advanced Studies Certificate

    October 25, 2026, with the "Tired Travelers" reception.
